Everyone has candida living within their bodies. We are born with this yeast-like organism inside of us. It lives in our digestive system and some of our mucous membranes. It’s there because it has a job to do - protecting us from harmful bacteria that can threaten our health. Candida shares its residence with other helpful intestinal fauna. The other fauna also have jobs and one of them is to keep the candida organisms in check. When the other fauna are prevented from doing that job, candida gets out of hand and begins multiplying prolifically. That’s when trouble starts.
An overpopulation of candida creates many wide and varied symptoms. You are probably familiar with some of them or you wouldn’t be reading this post. You have probably also discovered that conventional treatment for many of these issues is ineffective and usually temporary at best. Is there anything out there that will relieve the suffering caused by candida on a more long term basis?
The answer is yes. It isn’t a quick, pop a pill and be done with it solution. It involves lifestyle changes and a conviction to improve your health. Naturopathic and alternative healers have found that the correct diet and helpful herbs will control candida so you can live a more normal life. We’ll talk more about the complete diet you should follow in other posts, but let’s take a look now at some herbs and food sources that prove useful in the treatment of candida.
Garlic Garlic is an excellent natural anti-fungal treatment. Eat it fresh in your salad dressings, salsa, raw veggie dips and other yummy menu items. You can also buy it in capsule form. Garlic is one of the best food sources to enlist in the battle against candida.
Goldenseal Golden seal is another supplement that helps get candida in control. It’s not a delicious food, but it is a powerful anti-fungal agent. Don’t cook with golden seal, but instead take it as an herbal treatment for candida.
Cloves and Clove Oil Cloves and Clove Oil are very effective anti-fungal treatments. In fact, it is one of the strongest weapons in your arsenal of candida fighting tools. Use freshly ground clove to brew a cup of tea or chase a drop of clove oil with a glass of water. Clove is potent, so start out small.
Oregano Oil You can purchase Oil of Oregano as either an herbal treatment or an essential oil. It’s delicious when you add a drop or two to salad dressings or spice up spaghetti sauce with a dash of oregano oil. You can also add a couple of drops to a shot of water, drink it down and chase it with a glass of H2O.
We’ll look at other herbs and foods that help contribute to your healthy digestive system in upcoming posts. Stay tuned!
