Anyone following a Candida diet knows just how difficult it can be to eliminate all of the foods that yeast can thrive on - especially foods and snacks that contain sugar. The Candida diet is essentially designed to starve the fungus that is attempting to grow in your body. As the Candida organisms begin to die you may start to feel a bit ill as toxins are released into your body. This will pass and soon you’ll be scouring the refrigerator for your next meal.
Breakfast is rumored to be the most important meal of the day but many breakfast foods, especially the ones we normally grab as part of our fast-paced morning lifestyles, are full of sugar. So what are you going to eat at the start of each day? Here are a few healthy suggestions that will blend perfectly with your restricted dietary needs.
Candida Diet Pancakes
Who doesn’t enjoy a stack of piping hot pancakes in the morning? If you’re on the Candida diet you may question whether or not pancakes are a reasonable addition to your routine but, believe it or not, the recipe for a stack of simple pancakes can be easily modified to fit the Candida diet.
Start by gathering the following ingredients:
- 2 ¼ cups of garbanzo bean flour
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda
- 3 teaspoons of baking powder (without aluminum)
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- ¼ teaspoon of white stevia
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 2 cups of rice milk
Combine all of the dry ingredients in a small bowl. Combine your egg, olive oil, and rice milk in a large bowl. Slowly pour the dry mixture into the liquid mixture, stirring until blended and smooth. Pour a tablespoon or two of the mixture on a griddle over a medium heat. To keep your pancakes from sticking, try melting a little bit of ghee on the griddle.
You can’t top your pancakes with syrup while on the Candida diet but you can use a small amount of unsweetened applesauce or almond butter to enhance the flavor.
Candida Diet Omelets
A great way to make sure you have plenty of energy while on the Candida diet is to make sure your breakfast is packed full of lean proteins. One example of a protein packed breakfast would be a delicious egg-white omelet.
Your omelet can include 2-3 egg whites as well as a number of fresh vegetables. Experiment with what you like but consider using spinach, roasted red peppers, onions, asparagus, fresh herbs, and even garlic. You can even use jalapeno peppers as long as they are fresh and have not been pickled.
To give your omelet an extra protein punch, add a handful of chopped turkey or chicken, and if you’d like to change the texture you can add just a little bit of goat cheese or feta cheese.
Candida Diet Egg Cups with Cream Cheese
These yummy egg cups are not only a great breakfast but are easy to make in bulk and store for a couple of days. Start by gathering the following ingredients:
- 7 eggs, large - beaten
- 4 ounces of slightly melted cream cheese
- 1 small diced onion - sweet onions taste best
- ½ of a green pepper - diced
- Hot sauce (optional)
Start by setting your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit so that it can preheat. Line a regular 12-cup muffin pan with foil cupcake cups and spray the insides with nonstick spray. In a bowl, beat the eggs, melted cream cheese, and hot sauce (to taste, if you’ve opted to use it). The cream cheese will probably look lumpy, or like small curds. Pour the mixture into the baking cups, top each cup with your diced vegetable mixture, and bake for 20 minutes.
These recipes are perfect for anyone who is on the Candida diet but still wishes to start the day with filling, flavorful food. Enjoy!
